Zalar Shares Naloxone Toolkit on The Sound of Ideas

Zalar on Sound of IdeasZalar on Sound of IdeasOn Thursday, Sept. 5, Northeast Ohio Hospital Opioid Consortium Director of Education and Initiatives Camille Zalar, MHA, BSN, RN, CARN participated in a discussion with two Opioid Consortium partners on an episode of ideastream’s® The Sound of Ideas, which focused on naloxone as a life-saving, anti-overdose drug.

Joining Zalar on the broadcast, hosted by The Sound of Ideas’ Mike McIntyre, was:

  • Dr. Ted Parran, co-medical director, Rosary Hall; St. Vincent Charity Medical Center
  • Emily Metz, manager, Office of Opioid Safety; MetroHealth System

"We have to remember addiction is a chronic illness," said Zalar. " There are relapses. We have to continue treating to save lives."

"Our providers are working together and collaborating," added Parran. “If barriers are broken down, more people will access treatment. Naloxone is an entryway to get them into treatment...I hope what we’ve learned from the opioid epidemic will help us tackle future drug epidemics."

The Sound of Ideas broadcast coincided with the Opioid Consortium's Sept. 4 launch of an online Naloxone Toolkit designed to provide useful information to patients, healthcare professionals and the general public to help ensure naloxone gets into the hands of those who may need it.
