2012 Presidential Candidates: Health Policy Platforms



The election season is in full swing and unless you’ve joined the bears in hibernation you’ve probably caught some coverage of the Republican candidates vying for their party’s nomination. Teasing out how the Republican candidates’ health policy platforms differ can be a bit tricky given the common themes of “repeal Obamacare” and “less government” heard frequently on the campaign trail.

A candidate’s health policy positions encompass much more than the issue of federal healthcare reform and upon digging deeper, distinctions on key issues including Medicare, Medicaid and medical liability reform come into focus. This month’s policy snapshot, 2012 Presidential Candidates: Health Policy Platforms, examines how the Republican candidates’ positions differ from one another and from President Obama.
