About The Center: The Leading Advocate for Northeast Ohio Hospitals

With a rich history as the nation’s first regional hospital association, The Center for Health Affairs has served as the collective voice of Northeast Ohio hospitals for over 100 years. More than a century since its founding in 1916, The Center continues the legacy of its founders, working collaboratively to increase the efficiency of healthcare delivery, providing insightful healthcare information to the public and undertaking initiatives aimed at improving the health of the community. Despite a century of rapid evolution in healthcare, The Center has adapted, constantly enhancing its service offerings to meet the changing needs of its Northeast Ohio hospital members. Today, The Center’s efforts focus on areas that benefit from a regional approach:

The Center's Business Affiliates

One of The Center's most significant evolutions was the creation of its business affiliates CHAMPS Group Purchasing and CHAMPS Oncology:

CHAMPS Group Purchasing

CHAMPS Group Purchasing leverages the purchasing power of 13,000+ member locations across the United States. CHAMPS GPO members gain access to significant savings in product categories including medical / surgical supplies, foodservice, IT, wireless, office supplies and facility maintenance. Together with its national GPO partner Premier, CHAMPS supports member supply chain initiatives through their expertise in contract management, aggregation savings, supply chain technology, spend analytics and customized service.

CHAMPS Oncology

CHAMPS Oncology is dedicated to improving patient care by delivering and transforming high-quality cancer data into actionable information for cancer programs and healthcare providers across the country. Unlike traditional staffing companies, CHAMPS Oncology’s team of highly skilled cancer information specialists and experienced certified tumor registrars have been providing customized strategies and solutions for complete outsourcing, supplemental abstracting and cancer program consulting for more than 40 years. CHAMPS specializes in developing and delivering comprehensive registry solutions, achieving abstracting accuracy, advising clients on the Commission on Cancer accreditation process, implementing registry quality standards, providing continuous education to staff, capturing data for NAPBC accreditation and providing cancer data analytics utilizing insight2oncology®.

Though they have grown significantly since their inception, each of the CHAMPS business lines began as a program of the association and have been successful in part because of the incubation period within the shelter of The Center’s membership. In 2016, after a donation was made from CHAMPS, the HealthComp Foundation was established with a mission to accelerate a healthy community through high-quality healthcare services, community partnerships and investment.

The Center, located in downtown Cleveland, is proud to advocate on behalf of 36 hospitals in nine counties. Click here for a list of our Northeast Ohio hospital members.
